Water Treatment: Safety on the roads
Skidding, sliding and slamming on the brakes – it’s all in a day’s work on the driver training skid pan operated by Dutch automobile club ANWB. The hazards of driving on wet roads are one of the risks most often underestimated by motorists.

Reliable legionelle protection
For the driver safety training courses at Lelystad in the Netherlands, the road is sprayed with water to accurately test braking distances. At one point the road is even blocked by a jet of water, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes.
For the driver safety training courses at Lelystad in the Netherlands, the road is sprayed with water to accurately test braking distances. At one point the road is even blocked by a jet of water, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes.
The water that collects on the road surface is reused several times, so it has to be treated to ensure it is clean and germ-free. It may also get into the vehicle or even end up on the driver’s face – another good reason why it has to be free of dirt and germs, especially legionella.
Water treatment with DULCOTEST® and DULCOMARIN® II
To monitor how much disinfectant – in this case chlorine – is added to the water, the training school uses amperometric sensors from the DULCOTEST® series. The selective and accurate measurements guarantee maximum safety in water treatment. The data is recorded and monitored by a DULCOMARIN® II, which completes the measuring, control and metering circuit. The DULCOMARIN® II is ideal for individual pools because it is easy to install and operate. The chlorine is metered by a Beta solenoid metering pump.
Measurements transmitted by WLAN
In order to transmit the data, ProMinent developed a special solution for the automobile club. Because of the size of the facility, measurements are conveniently transmitted by WLAN.
The wet roads not only provide valuable safety training but also make the tyre tread last longer: in the dry, full braking causes the same amount of wear to the tyres as a trip of 500 kilometres.
